We have had a great weekend in Sicily with sunshine and excellent seafood and sweets.

Palermo is a ramshackle city in places recalling its proximity to Africa. The city has a sunny harbour and lovely botanic gardens full of interesting spikey plants. Lots reminded me of home with many Australian plants and trees. This Added to excellent seafood and I am happy!  Crazy sized gelato have also helped!
There are some glimmering mosaics in the Norman churches with an interesting combination of Arab, Byzantine and roman artistic styles.
On our second day we went to Segusta ruins to the west. The theatre and temple are in beautiful hills which were covered in wildflowers.
We visited mountain top medieval Erice on the way back where we got great views of the Mediterranean coast between the clouds.
We've packed lots into our short visit!
